In 1996, the Alameda County Green Business Program began offering technical assistance and incentives to auto repair shops wishing to go beyond basic regulatory requirements. The program was extended to printers and hotels in 2000. So far, over 290 Alameda County businesses
and public agencies
have formed partnerships with the San Francisco Bay Area Green Business Program. According to County Coordinator, Pamela Evans, promoting green businesses translates directly to the bottom line. Customers prefer doing business with companies who protect the environment.

Expansion into More Industries...
Alameda County has since worked with the regional program to develop checklists for restaurants, landscapers, hotels, offices and more! Nearly any small to medium-sized business or or non-profit can become certified.
...and Public Agencies
In addition to businesses, the program has certified public agency
departments, including fleet maintenance operations and print shops.
