"Becoming a Green Business is a no-brainer -- a win-win situation that saves you money and protects the environment. Customers appreciate our being a Green Business."

--Bob Buchen, Complete Auto Service, San Pablo

"The Green Business Program promotes your efforts. You can be a small business doing the right thing, but it won't increase your business until the community knows.

Becoming a Green Business has given us a higher profile within our community. People enjoy shopping here in part because of our environmental actions."

--Larry Hasset, Palo Alto Hardware, Palo Alto

What Do I Have to Do?

Comply with environmental regulations

Local agencies will provide technical assistance, if needed, and verify that your business complies with applicable environmental regulations. Depending on your business type this could include site visits from wastewater, storm water, hazardous materials, and air quality staff.

Conserve resources, prevent pollution, reduce waste

Use a Green Business checklist to select and record what you are doing to green your operations. Some actions businesses take include:
  • buying only recycled-content paper and copying double-sided
  • cleaning with less toxic products
  • using efficient lighting systems
  • installing low-flow toilets and faucet aerators
You may already be doing enough to qualify. Staff from PG&E, your water company and others will visit your business to verify that you meet our standards.
